working on our house

Currently we are running duct work in our basement in the race against the oncoming winter. Soon we hope to have a operating hot air propane heating system and in october we are suppose to get our Pellet stove. We are ready for it:

Torrent

In july we got a dog from North County Animal League. He had been transfered from a animal shelter in Indianapolis where he was in line to be euthanized. Evidently it is a huge shelter there with something like 14,000 animals or so-so they euthanize them. His name was Eric but we didn't like the sound of it so we change his name to Torrent. He is a wonderful dog and we love him very much.

Montgomery's Cafe

This is the first time that i've gone wireless at an internet cafe. Pretty sweet! This revamped Newport Vermont cafe is nice to have 2 blocks from my house. (see above photo)
I have not written in my blog for quite some time now. I really intended to be more dedicated to it, when we took our trip to Greece & Italy in March-April-but It was extremley difficult to get online when we traveling because of the expense at internet cafes, however, I hope to post some of the pictures from that trip, now that I'm at a place to do so. Better late then never. So I've got some catching up to do... A lot has happened in my life this year.
After returning from our 2 month backpacking trip through Greece & Italy, we moved up to our Newport house that we had purchased last december impulsivley. It is a beautiful house, full of history-it was like walking into a museum, everything was left from the early part of the century, as though it were trapped in time. One of the original owners was the ship captain clark of the Anthimos on lake memphremagog. Originally from montreal, he had a daughter, Betty Clark that lived in the house her entire life, until she went into a nursing home, then died, leaving the house vacant for 8 years until we bought it. She had apparently lived in the house alone for most of her life, never married, and was viewed by others as sort of a recluse. She had gone mad in her later years, aquiring many cats-causing her to be deemed a crazy cat lady. I have more to learn about the history of this house, but this is what I know so far.
I found a job for the summer, starting in May working at Butterworks farm. I've been working there there about 30 hours a week, milking cows, working in the fields, stacking wood, weedwacking, throwing hay in the loft, you name it. It has been a very physical job. I work with some good folks. It's good honest work.
But I'm looking for something else for the winter. It's hard to be picky about jobs up here-but to be honest, I care more about art and writing and creative pursuits then bringing home the bacon so to speak..I don't even like bacon. I'm sick of working for other people! I really want to go back to school to get my MFA. But until I can afford it-I'll have to just work on my own for now. I wish you didn't have to be rich to pursue graduate school. I was in graduate school for education but currently I'm a drop out- because I decided it was a waste of money to pursue something I wasn't altogether passionate about. I'd be so indebt, I wouldn't be able to really continue to do the things I love. So screw it, I'm not going to go to graduate school just for goddamn bragging rights, which I think to some extent this is why a lot of people go-for a false sense of being better then others or to make a lot of money-or both. But some people generally love what they are studying-this should be the reason you go-or if you need to go to get the job you would love. Or if someone else is paying your way and you can afford to be a life time student. I would really love to be a life time student I think-but not footing the bill for the rest of my life, nah...
